Coming back to Redwood College feels like returning to a cherished family home—the kind where the front door is always open, the laughter is familiar, and the purpose is clear. I’m deeply honoured to step in once again to serve this incredible community with peace and steadiness at heart.
Much like a golfer standing at the tee box with fresh perspective, I see this moment as an opportunity to refocus on our shared vision. Every step forward sharpens our aim, deepens our unity, and strengthens the impact we’re called to make together.
When I first walked these halls more than 27 years ago, my prayer was simple: “Lord, may this place become a space where children not only learn, but grow into who You created them to be.”
That prayer still guides me today. Education has always been more than academics to me. It’s about shaping hearts, nurturing character, and guiding every learner to reach their God-given potential. It’s about raising sons and daughters who will one day lead with wisdom, compassion, and courage. Redwood College is more than a school—it is a vibrant community rooted in grace, driven by purpose, and built on the faithfulness of those who came before us.
Here, parents, teachers, and leaders link arms in a sacred partnership to serve a higher calling: the shaping of young lives for impact, integrity, and influence. As C.S. Lewis once said, “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make a man a smarter devil.”

Mr Vernon DavidOur History
In 1987, Victory Christian Academy (VCA) opened its doors for the very first time to eight students. Thus, began the legacy of Christian schooling in the La Lucia, Durban North area.
In 1993, after being housed in amongst other places, an office complex, a cinema and a church hall, VCA found its permanent home at 34 Ronan Road, La Lucia, Durban.
Over the past three decades, the school has grown into a well-established private institution.
The Personal System of Instruction offered by the school has proved to be pioneering as many private schools are now following suit to meet international best practice standards.
In 2019, VCA transitioned to REDWOOD COLLEGE, becoming the flagship school of a branded chain of private schools within the Accelerated Education Enterprises (AEE) stable.
Redwood Schools are positioned to positively impact education through the delivery of innovative education solutions whilst remaining grounded in a solid Christian ethos and culture. The objective is to develop a footprint of branded schools that deliver academic excellence that is relevant in a fast-developing world.
The Redwood Name
The Redwood name is taken from the mighty Redwood forests that stand tall and weather the test of time. However, the brand borrows more from the Redwood forests than just a name.
The living mechanism and ecosystem of the Redwood forests provides living insights and principles that are adopted into the Redwood brand.
The unique root system whereby the surprisingly shallow roots of individual trees extend radially and intertwine with each other creates a sophisticated anchor that facilitates the entire forest’s growth, even in harsh environmental conditions.
The bark of a Redwood Tree is thick, fibrous and spongy. It retains moisture which protects the tree from external threats such as fire and insect infestation.
A Redwood forest is a vibrant ecosystem providing home, shelter and protection to a plethora of plant and animal life. The forests are a key component of a greater system whereby they serve to clean the atmosphere through the capture of carbon dioxide and the release of oxygen.
Redwood learns from the forests and adopts the following core principles:
