Learning today,
Leading tomorrow

Choose a learning environment today that positions your child to be a leader tomorrow

Welcome to the Redwood College Gonubie Family.
We count it a privilege and a responsibility, one we take seriously before God, to be instrumental in educating and developing your children.

Our team is committed to nurturing our learners to reach their full potential in every area of their lives. We will endeavour to teach them to serve God and others and become responsible members of the home, school community and world. Focus will also be placed on building leadership skills and growing in academic, sporting and cultural skills. Great emphasis is placed on character building, through the Word of God as without this a child is hampered in moving forward. Our learners will set the example of excellence in all areas of life and learning.

As a registered school of the Eastern Cape Education Department and a Gold Level Award from Accelerated Education Enterprises, our families can have full confidence in Redwood College Gonubie’s vision, mission and goals. Our desire is that each parent, learner and teacher will have a rewarding experience at Redwood College Gonubie while also receiving a revelation of God’s destiny for their lives.

God’s richest blessings to you and your families.

Our History

In 1997 Mr. Bruce Main was given permission by the Eastern Cape Education Department to start a High School in Gonubie.  Gonubie Christian High School opened its doors in 1998 to eleven High School learners. This was the start of Christian Education in the town of Gonubie, East London. In 2009, the school grew under the leadership of Principal Mrs. Adele Pfiffner and with the addition of the Primary School was renamed Gonubie Christian School.

The school continues to grow as a Christian private school of choice, offering Grades R-12. The individualised system of instruction offered at the school allows for learners to work independently, within a nurturing, disciplined and structured environment.

In 2020, GCS transitioned to Redwood College Gonubie, becoming part of the Redwood family of private schools.

The Redwood name is taken from the mighty Redwood Forests that stand tall and weather the test of time. However, the brand borrows more from the Redwood Forests than just a name.

The living mechanism and ecosystem of the Redwood Forests provides living insights and principles that are adopted into the Redwood brand.

The unique root system whereby the surprisingly shallow roots of individual trees extend radially and intertwine with each other creates a sophisticated anchor that facilitates the entire forest’s growth, even in harsh environmental conditions.

The bark of a Redwood Tree is thick, fibrous and spongy. It retains moisture which protects the tree from external threats such as fire and insect infestation.

A Redwood forest is a vibrant ecosystem providing home, shelter and protection to a plethora of plant and animal life. The forests are a key component of a greater system whereby they serve to clean the atmosphere through the capture of carbon dioxide and the release of oxygen.

Redwood learns from the forests and adopts the following core principles:

Better together

Each Redwood School will achieve more success as a result of belonging to the family as opposed to operating independently. The brand mantra is BETTER TOGETHER and this is inferred from the idea of belonging to something greater than the sum of the parts.

Excellence & Values

Redwood Schools stand tall as centres of academic excellence with a strong value system and commitment to both community and individuals.

Feels like home

The Redwood School ecosystem seeks to provide a vibrant learning environment for all learners – a place of shelter, a place called home, a place where individuals are valued, a place where values are essential, learning is central and potential is released.

Our Values

At Redwood, we are profoundly aware that education systems world-wide are becoming redundant in the face of a fast-changing environment.

At Redwood we speak to and treat others the way we would like to be spoken to and treated.

At Redwood we strive to do the best that we can in all situations. Excellence is our standard of measurement which means we never settle for mediocrity.

At Redwood we honour God and seek His purpose. Raising up children with a strong value system and moral characteristics is as important as imparting knowledge.

At Redwood we are honest and show a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.
